Junior Chamber International Abeokuta annual "Police and You" seminar: Ogun Police boss assures whistleblowers of safety

The Ogun state commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu, on Thursday assured that the command had put in place adequate machinery to ensure the safety of whistle-blowers who provide the force with useful information that could lead to the arrest of suspect criminals.

The commissioner  made the disclosure at the annual "Police and You" seminar  with the theme: "Combating crimes among youth in the face of economic recession' organised by the Abeokuta chapter of the Junior Chamber International.
He  maintained that the provision of such information would maximally help in the reduction of crime in the state.
The Police boss, who was represented by Inspector Olarenwaju Osohintola, however enjoined members of the public to cooperate with all security agencies in the quest to rid the state of crimes and criminality.
The police boss however,  urged   parents to  be more concerned of  their wards right from tender age and also  focus on their daily activities in order to check their excesses.
Iliyasu enjoyed the youth to desist from evil associated with crimes in the society.
"Why information is very essential in crime fighting is that without information there is no how we will fight the crime, one of our status quo as a police officer is to detect and prevent crime before it escalates  or turn into violent.
Police is now democratic unlike before when people have lost confidence in the Police, you can quote me anywhere any one given information will not be disclosed
JCI Nigeria National Vice President in charge of Southwest, Abiola Olorunisola, said that the seminar was organised to sensitise the public on their role at improving the security situation in the country.

The Vice President also representing Executive Vice President JCI, Nigeria Olori Shayo Ojo specifically urged the youths, who are the major target of the seminar, to be engaged in productive ventures rather than involving themselves in social vices.
He  said that the JCI Abeokuta deems it  fit sensitizing youth about their  role in the community.
He stated that it is of belief  that the security of the individual in the community is not saddled on the law enforcement agencies only but a joint effort of both the law enforcement agencies and the members of the society
"We want to have a better society, because our organization is basically dominated by the youth and as a result of this we believe that a young age between 18-40 can make positive impact  in our community ,we want to see a better community of ours ,he said
The 2017 Chapter President, John I. Samuel, disclosed that the organisation believed that if the youth are properly guided on the need to run away from crime, Nigeria will be a better place  for us all to live.

Osinbajo Rejects N7b VP Residence, Says He Will Remain In Current Accommodation

The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Sunday said the Federal Government would at the appropriate time convert the new official residence being built for the Vice President to another use.

Osinbajo said this in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, amid continued criticism of the project which is expected to gulp over N7b.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, Dino Melaye, had disclosed recently that only the security post, also known as gateman’s house, in the building will gulp N250m.

This was revealed on Thursday by the ‎Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory.

But Akande said the decision to build the new residence and the controversial gatehouse preceded the present administration.

He said Osinbajo’s position had remained that his present official residence, Akinola Aguda House, is good enough for him.
He gave an indication that the 14 building in the residence which is already in about 85% completion stage would be used for another purpose.

The statement read, “For the umpteenth time, we like to clarify that the proposed plan of the immediate past administration to build a new official residence for the occupant of the Office of the Vice President, including the controversial gatehouse preceded this administration.

“The project which started in 2010, was initiated and funded by the immediate past administration, but had never featured in the two budget proposals of the Buhari administration: neither in the 2016 nor the 2017 spending plans.

“Any suggestion therefore that this project benefits our administration or that it reflects our spending style or preferences is not only misleading but blatantly false.

“Besides, the incumbent Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has said publicly that he considers Aguda House, which he currently occupies, a befitting official residence for the Vice President and sufficient for his needs.

“While the project is now about 85% complete, the Federal Government, in the circumstances, will decide at the appropriate time what is the best use for the 14 buildings already on the project site.”

"Bring back corruption" by Ademola H. Adigun

Iya Joe is a civil servant. Every time she sees Buhari on TV she gets angry. Buhari is responsible for all her problems. The man is the ...devil.

Iya Joe earns N250k monthly as an Assistant Director. She is long separated from her useless husband. She has 2 Children in Bowen. The last two attend a private secondary school. She has a house in Kubuwa. She was building one in the village. She has another two in her sisters name in various property schemes in Abuja.

Before PMB's emergence, she estimates that she spent annually about N25m. Money flowed. There were a lot of leakages. She had paid her dues as a civil servant. It was her time to eat. And eat she did.

The word TSA gives her shivers. She gets annoyed when that word is bandied around. The death of PMB would give her much pleasure. Every time she imagines the enemy, she sees PMB.

She knows that the leakages are proceeds of corruption. In her mind she is not corrupt. What is corruption? Is registering a company and mopping excess funds with that company corruption? Is taking "thank you" corruption? What about political office holders?

She does not care that before TSA that government only realised 35% of revenue. That illegal retention by MDAs was up to 80%.

She loves GEJ. What good man he was. That he built no roads, that he built no infrastructure, that his government on comparative basis earned what in 4 years what Nigeria had earned in 16 years before: that is not her business. She prospered.

She used to buy the shank from Baba Ireti. Now she was lucky to visit Baba Ireti once a week. Her freezers were now empty. She had to mop up to pay fees at Bowen the last time.

She was not the only one. Musa was complaining. Her tailor Safiya was complaining. Baba Ireti was complaining. Her patronage of their wares had lowered. In fact Kelechi her mechanic called to "greet"her.

Buhari had brought this upon them. He should do quick and die. When he did, she would know there was a God. This felt like 1984 again. And that useless Kemi and her efficiency unit, that one would soon learn the power of public servants.

There was a knock on her door. It was her Pastor. The man now visited her. She had not paid her "normal tithes" in a long time. The Devil Buhari was even causing her to offend God.

Bring back corruption. That is her song. Who cares that the economic growth was not real or creating value but false wealth? Who cared?

#FuelSubsidyRemoval: Labour Union Ends Strike........

NLC, Strike, Petrol

The Ayuba Wabba faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress has suspended an industrial action called to resist the new price of petrol.

The leader of the union announced the suspension on Sunday.
It came after an emergency meeting of its organs – the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee.
At the meeting, talks were focused on the strike and the way forward.
Mr Wabba said the strike was suspended due to the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians including the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Comrade Wabba said the industrial action was informed by the twin issues of the unjustified and illegal hike in electricity tariff and increase in the pump price of petrol.
The Congress also announced plans to resume negotiations with the Federal Government, with a view to resolving the issues that prompted the strike.
The NLC President added that the Congress would continue to resist wrong legislations, policies and programmes that would impact negatively on the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
The 67.6 per cent increase had angered the labour union, with the union saying it was insensitive.
